Extending the Life of
Your Critical Assets
Locomotive and heavy industrial assets represent enormous capital investment. Our maintenance and retrofitting services maximise the return on that investment — recovering failed equipment faster, restoring performance to as-new condition, and introducing modern technology into aging platforms without the cost of full replacement.
Five Service Streams
From emergency fault diagnosis to a structured preventive maintenance programme, we tailor our services around your operational calendar and maintenance budget.
Diagnostic Inspection
Rapid fault diagnosis using a combination of electrical testing, thermal imaging, vibration analysis, and visual inspection techniques. Our technicians are trained across ALCO, EMD, and GE systems and can provide a written fault report within 24 hours of receiving the unit.
- 24-hour turnaround fault report
- Thermal imaging & HiPot testing
- No-obligation quotation included
Component Overhaul
Full strip, clean, inspect, and rebuild of returned locomotive components — power electronics assemblies, mechanical sub-assemblies, and sensor units. Overhauled units are tested to the same acceptance standard as new components before return.
- 12-month post-overhaul warranty
- Full test certificate issued
- Exchange pool available for critical items
Electronic Retrofitting
Replacement of obsolete or unreliable original electronic systems with modern equivalents designed for direct drop-in replacement. We engineer the interface hardware, develop the installation kit, and provide commissioning support — minimising the time your locomotive is out of service.
- Wiring loom adaptation included
- On-site commissioning available
- RDSO approval pathway support
Performance Upgrades
Engineering-led modifications to improve the performance, efficiency, or reliability of existing systems beyond their original specification. This includes power rating increases, thermal derating reversal, dynamic braking improvements, and fuel consumption optimisation.
- Validated before and after performance data
- ROI analysis provided upfront
- Fleet-wide rollout support
Preventive Maintenance Programmes
Structured, calendar-based maintenance programmes covering critical locomotive components — with scheduled inspection visits, early-life component replacement, and condition-based monitoring to eliminate unplanned failures. We work within your maintenance windows and can adapt around operational timetables.
The Economics of
Asset Life Extension
A diesel-electric locomotive represents a capital investment of several crore rupees. When the electronic systems that control the traction, protection, and monitoring functions become unreliable — often due to component obsolescence rather than fundamental design failure — operators face a choice: replace the whole locomotive, or retrofit modern electronics into a mechanically sound asset.
In almost every case, retrofitting is the economically superior choice. A well-executed electronic retrofit can restore a locomotive to full rated performance at 15–25% of the cost of a new vehicle, and extend its operational life by 15 years or more.
The same logic applies to mechanical refurbishment: machined components that would cost a fraction of a new vehicle to restore are often condemned prematurely because the expertise to properly assess and refurbish them is not locally available. We provide that expertise.
From Contact to Commissioning
Contact & Assessment
Day 1You contact us with a description of the fault or requirement. We provide an initial consultation — over phone, email, or site visit — to assess the scope and urgency, and advise on the fastest route to restoring your asset to service.
Inspection & Quotation
Day 2The unit is received at our facility (or we attend site) for detailed inspection. A written fault report and fixed-price quotation are provided within 24 hours. No work proceeds without your approval.
Repair / Retrofit / Overhaul
Days 3–10Work proceeds to the agreed scope using original or Elixir Engineering components. All work is documented by the technician. Quality inspection is carried out by a separate inspector before testing.
Test & Certification
Day 10–12The completed unit is subjected to a full functional test against the agreed acceptance standard. A test certificate, work record, and any applicable calibration certificate are issued with the unit.
Return & Commissioning
Day 12+The unit is returned to you with full documentation. On-site commissioning support is available for retrofit projects. A post-installation review call is scheduled to confirm satisfactory performance.
Schedule a Service Assessment
Whether you have a unit in hand that needs diagnosis, or you want to develop a long-term maintenance programme for your fleet, our team is ready to help. Assessments are obligation-free.
